Fine performance by a slightly past-prime Johnson against the Pittsburgh Dentist. The fact that three-quarters of this knowledgeable board thought that Marciano, with all due respect, to beat the Galveston Giant shows the misguided bias against the old school and the unjustified aura that comes from being undefeated.

Wow! Mike Tyson was such a beast 26 years ago...... I really enjoy these full fights on this daily thread Astor! In addition to watching the Ayala vs Tapia FOTY last night around 11:00pm I also watched the Nigel Benn destruction from yesterday's thread too.... Anybody else watch some of these old fights from these threads? I'm just a boxing junkie so I watch a lot of boxing thanks to Astor & TTR.... :D

Born On This Day

1944- Shelly Finkel (born in New York City, New York)
Finkel was a rock and roll manager before branching out into boxing. He began promoting amateur bouts in 1978 and formed a partnership with Hall of Famer Lou Duva. Among the boxers in his corner were Olympic medalists Pernell Whitaker, Evander Holyfield, Meldrick Taylor, Michael Moorer, Vinny Paz, Mike Tyson and current heavyweight champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko. In 1990 and 1993 Finkel was voted the Al Buck Award as manager of the year.
