Re: September Basho

Ichinojo officially gets a Make Koshi today after winning the Yusho last tournament. Obviously a very disappointing showing from him after such a success last time around.

The Yusho Race for this particular Tournament is still very much up in the air.

Re: September Basho

Probably a good call. Teru was still getting more wins than losses, but obviously struggling more than normal. Hokutofuji took his first loss today on Day 10. Asanoyama who I believe is a former Ozeki, is on the comeback trail down in the Makushita ranks. At the pace he's going he should be back in ...

Re: July 2022 (Nagoya Basho)

I was expecting yet another Yusho for Terunofuji coming into Day 15, but Ichinojo pulls it off this time, thanks in large part to Takakeisho who handed Terunofuji his 4th loss of the Tournament. Not often you see somebody win the Yusho with a 12-3 record, but that's the way the cookie crumbled this ...

July 2022 (Nagoya Basho)

This marks the 2 year anniversary of my Sumo fandom. The man who won that 1st Tournament I saw play out Live (well ok, not live, but shortly after) was Terunofuji. Once again he's in the running after 7 days this go around. This tournament is kinda all over the place. We have the enigma Ozeki. Medio...

Re: Wilder to face Helenius in October?

Perfect opponent for Wilder to get back in the game. Helenius is a dangerous enough cat, that you can't just completely ignore him, but Wilder should have almost every physical advantage here. He's faster. He's longer. He'll get there first. My thinking is this is either a 1st round KO demolition fo...

Re: Another Music Thread

Nazareth is such an underrated band, here's another good one by them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0MP1hOc6t8 I've had a stellar musical year so far. My record of most concerts attended in a year up to this point in my life was 4 which I got in 2018. When I saw GWAR 2x (once in Fort Wayne the ot...

Re: How do we revive this site

I love this site. I wish I was able to get on more, but life got in the way. Lol. It is starting to slow back down so I will get on more. Work, school, retired from the military, moved, etc etc etc. Same with me. I work all the time these days, and have lost access to most live Boxing these days, s...

Re: Greatest Rounds ever

Since we haven't had a Round 5 mentioned yet. I'm gonna nominate Barrera vs Morales 1, Round 5

Bill "Caveman" Lee vs John Lo Cicero had a barnburner of a Round 4 and 5 as well.

Re: RIP:Alan White

Any Member of a Progressive Rock band has to be a virtuoso talent on their chosen instrument, and Alan was indeed that. Sadly on I believe the same day we also lost Andy Fletcher, the Keyboardist for Depeche Mode who is another one of my all time favorite bands. You hate to see the great music maker...

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

Terunofuji wins yet another one. I started watching Sumo in July 2020, and have watched every Top Division tournament since. I've seen several guys win it once. I've only seen one guy win more than once, that was Terunofuji. And since July 2020, I'm pretty sure this makes his 6th Yusho. So it's safe...

He can't really go wrong with any decent option. Andrade, Jermall Charlo, Canelo, GGG, Plant.

There's lots of options for him, and I'd be intrigued by any of 'em.

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

So a result on today's show got me wondering. Are the Gyoji's (Referees) allowed to declare a Toranaoshi (Draw) or is that only something the judges can do? Because anytime I've seen it come up it's always that the Gyoji picked a winner, and it was decided to be a draw by the judges. Forcing the ref...

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

Shodai is "The Enigma" of Sumo. Lousy one match, Excellent the next. Now today he won in a somewhat flukish manner, but nevertheless he escaped with a win in a Tournament where he's done bad so far, and this guy beat Terunofuji. Shodai inconsistent as ever, but he's consistent in his incon...

Greatest Rounds ever

I couldn't think of a way to name this thread to get the point across, so I'll just let the thread explain itself Anyway, what I thought would be a cool idea for a thread. We've all discussed Greatest Rounds of all time, Greatest Fights of all time, that kinda thing, but have we ever done a breakdow...

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

It's a weird tournament. Very unusual to have no sanyaku rikishi doing better than 6-3, yet that's just 1 off the leading pace at the moment. We could get a rare 11-4 makuuchi yusho, the last one was 5 years ago and the one before that was 26 years ago. Maegashira you mean? I thought Daiesho was Ma...

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

So after 10 days your leaders are Takanosho and Ichiyamamoto both with an 8-2 record. I don't see either of them ultimately winning the Basho. I suspect one of the men in 2nd place which is currently a 5 way tie between Terunofuji, Kiribayama, Ura, Aioyama and Sadanaoumi who all have a 7-2 record. I...

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

It'd be a stunner if he does. He's generally nowhere near the running. If I were a betting man though I'd bet heavily against it. Even if he's 10-0 I'd still bet against it.

Re: May 2022 Sumo Basho (Natsu Basho)

Of course Shodai as usual seems to be doing his one tournament off, one tournament on thing lol. This time he's off.

Of course he started off shitty last time and managed a winning record when he needed to. He always seems to be doing JUST ENOUGH to maintain his Ozeki ranking.

I'm glad we're finally getting a Tournament where all of the higher ranked guys Ozeki and Yokozuna are healthy and in this thing.
