Recent Happenings in the World of MMA
- At UFC 77, the UFC displayed their newest acquisition, Brock Lesnar. The former Minnesota Golden Gopher is the newest addition to their growing heavyweight division and is almost certain to be one of their most marketed fighters. Lesnar (1-0), coming off a dominating performance at K-1 Dynamite in June, had been rumored to be negotiating with the UFC since his MMA debut and finally a deal has been reached. Official figures on the contract are unavailable at this time and his debut will most likely take place on their card on Super Bowl weekend.

- On October 22nd, M-1 Global officially announced the signing of Fedor Emelianenko. Along with announcing the signing of the former PRIDE heavyweight champion, M-1, announced their intentions of making their company global. Even in signing a television deal in the not too distant future. Monte Cox was also announced as the new CEO of M-1 Global. More information regarding the future for M-1 Global is currently unavailable but should be announced in the coming weeks.

- At the 2007 Scream Awards on Spike TV, UFC President Dana White announced the co main event for UFC 79. And as expected and leaked numerous occasions, Chuck Liddell will take on Wanderlei Silva. This fight, promised on numerous occasions to take place is now signed, sealed, and soon to be delivered.

- On Thursday the 25th of October, both Randy Couture and Dana White held press conferences. Randy?s which was scheduled for nearly a week ahead of time basically explained his situation with the UFC and his reasons for resiging. Dana White on the other hand talked about his new Spike TV deal, Lesnar, Wandy-Liddell, and Randy Couture. When asked by a reporter, if this press conference being scheduled the same time as Couture?s was a coincidence or a planned event. He dodged the question by speaking of Lesnar and Spike TV, and even said he did not understand the question. It was obvious that even though the conference was full of information, it was a planned event. Nothing really new was found out in either press conferences. Couture did hand out a shortened copy of his UFC contract and even admitted he was offered to fight Fedor for Bodog when he was retired. Yet it is slowly being shown to the public that Randy?s resigning is mainly about the money, and how newer acquisitions are getting more money than him. At 44 years old and still under contract with the UFC, it is highly unlikely that we will see the Fedor-Couture match up the fans want to see. But he is still the UFC heavyweight champion according to Dana White.

- Paulo Filho may have his next opponent, and it is not UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Instead according to many MMA websites across the web, Filho will take on former Icon Middlewight Champion and two-time UFC welterweight championship challenger Frank Trigg. The bout is rumored to be on the December 12th card in the WEC.
