- This was Shumenov's first bout since his TKO-10 win over Junior Anthony Wright on May 21, 2016.
- Shumenov decked Altunkaya in round one and in round nine.
- Altunkaya's corner let referee Tony Weeks know that their man had had enough after the ninth round. Shumenov was leading 90-79 on all three scorecards at that point.
