TTR Monthly Honors: February 2018

Fighter of the Month: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai

Coming off of a fantastic 2017 in which he scored back-to-back victories over the highly touted Roman Gonzalez, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai added another impressive win to his resume by outpointing the highly regarded Juan Francisco Estrada. Estrada, who came in off a win over Carlos Cuadras, is a very talented and skilled fighter, but the Thai champion proved to be too much once again. He fought to a Majority Decision and solidified his status as the man to beat at 115 pounds. With three tremendous victories in a row, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai has gotten the attention of Boxing fans all over the world, and we'll definitely be looking to see what comes next for TTR's Fighter of the Month!

Honorable Mention: Murat Gassiev received 5 votes for Fighter of the Month from the TTR board as well for his impressive victory over Yunier Dorticos which is noted as our Fight of the Month.

Fight of the Month: Murat Gassiev KO 12 Yunier Dorticos

The second Semi-final bout of the World Boxing Super Series Cruiserweight Tournament proved to be a tremendous battle. Dorticos boxed well and certainly landed his share of heavy blows on Gassiev, but the steady body attack and aggression of Gassiev slowly wore down Dorticos over the course of the bout. Gassiev dealt out increasingly heavy damage as the bout progressed. It all came to a head in the 12th round when Gassiev landed a booming left hook to Dorticos jaw, and hammered him to the canvas to score a highly dramatic KO. With the win, Gassiev advances to the Tournament Final against Oleksandr Usyk in another fight that is expected to be a highly entertaining contest. For now he and Dorticos can take pride in having taken part in TTR's Fight of the Month!

Knockout of the Month: Vigan Mustafa KO 2 Nicola Pietro Ciriani

This one probably went under the radar for a lot of Boxing fans, but it's definitely a highlight reel KO worthy of widespread notice. The 30-year-old Ciriani, the defending Italian light heavyweight champion, was fighting very aggressively trying to force a busy pace on the 38-year-old Mustafa. The plan backfired on Ciriani as he walked into a crushing left hook counter in the 2nd round that put him down and out. With the win, Mustafa gained the Italian title and he gained recognition from our members for scoring TTR's Knockout of the Month!
