TTR Monthly Honors: December 2017

Fighter of the Month: Caleb Truax

December was a busy month for Boxing. There were a lot of good fighters picking up impressive wins and putting on memorable performances, but none was more shocking than Caleb Truax's upset of James DeGale. DeGale, the #1 rated Super Middleweight coming in, had been on the sidelines following a shoulder surgery and was making a comeback against what was perceived to be a safe opponent in IBF #15 ranked Truax. Well as plans may be, plans can go awry, and the safe opponent Truax turned out to be not so safe after all. Outhustling James DeGale down the stretch, and pulling off the upset of the year, Truax is 2017's final Fighter of the Month!

Fight of the Month: John Molina, Jr. vs Ivan Redkach

A tremendous battle! Redkach got off to a hot start, and in the 2nd round dropped Molina. He had Molina so badly wobbled by the end of the 2nd that it looked as if Molina might be stopped shortly after, but Molina did better than just survive the 3rd round. He came back to level Redkach with a huge right hand, and turn the tables on Redkach. Redkach finished the 3rd round in the same trouble that Molina had found himself in the previous round. In the 4th, the dramatic action continued with Redkach brazenly goading Molina on, and daring him to throw heavy shots. Molina obliged, landing a series of blows that dropped Redkach to the canvas again. The referee stopped the fight, perhaps a little prematurely for the fans as it was such great action, but Molina had definitely dealt out heavy damage. It was high drama from the 2nd round on, and it was TTR's Fight of the Month for December!

Knockout of the Month: Luis Ortiz KO 2 Daniel Martz

After the cancellation of Ortiz's fight with Wilder was cancelled due to a PED accusation, the situation was soon cleared. Ortiz got Martz on short notice. An opponent picked with the intention of giving Ortiz an impressive performance it would seem. Mission accomplished. Ortiz was in complete control from the start, dropping Martz in the first round before a sledgehammer left in the 2nd dropped Martz face first, and brought an emphatic end to the bout giving Ortiz a big KO win leading into his rescheduled fight with Wilder, and TTR's KO of the Month!
