On the last day of the year, Kazuto Ioka (22-1, 13 KOs), who had been TTR's #1 ranked contender for the lineal World flyweight title voluntarily relinquished by Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez in 2016. Thus, when the end-of-the year rankings were compiled, there was a new #1 contender, Donnie Nietes.
