Fighter of the Month: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai

Srisaket Sor Rungvisai burst into the collective minds of Fight fans earlier in the year with a controversial Split Decision win over the much lauded Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez who, at that time, was considered one of the sports' Pound-for-Pound elites. Many fans disagreed with the verdict in their first bout so naturally they had a rematch. Well there's certainly no controversy or doubt in Sor Rungvisai's victory this time. Gonzalez looked uncomfortable from the outset as if he wasn't mentally prepared or perhaps physically capable of fending off Sor Rungvisai's aggression. The first fight was close, the rematch wasn't close at all. Sor Rungvisai won the rematch emphatically and wins Fighter of the Month honors with a decisive vote in his favor from the TTR community.

Fight of the Month: Gennady Golovkin D12 Saul "Canelo" Alvarez

The big PPV blockbuster for the month of September wins Fight of the Month honors. This fight had been brewing for about 2 years, and we finally got to see it this month. There was some controversy in the official outcome as the fight was scored a draw which raised the ire of many fight fans, but the fight itself was an excellent hard fought contest between two of the best practitioners of the Sweet Science going today. It was nip and tuck early, but Golovkin swept the middle rounds by pressing Canelo against the ropes, and continuing to outwork him. Canelo made a strong surge down the stretch in the fight, and was able to take some of the final rounds, and even things up on the official cards. The draw outcome all but guarantees we'll be seeing these two fight a rematch at some point, but for now we're left with a draw, and TTR's Fight of the Month!

Honorable Mention: Gilberto Ramirez W12 Jesse Hart finished just under GGG/Canelo in our Fight of the Month poll receiving 4 votes as well. It was Ramirez's 1st defense of the WBO Super Middleweight crown. Hart was stunning Ramirez early with well timed shots, but Ramirez was able to rally back and drop Hart in the 2nd round. It seemed like it might be over shortly after, but Hart showed a lot of heart (pun intended), and kept fighting back hard throughout the fight only losing by a narrow margin on the 3 scorecards. Gutsy display from both fighters.

Knockout of the Month: Srisaket Sor Rungvisai KO 4 Roman Gonzalez

Another award for Sor Rungvisai's devastating KO of Roman Gonzalez, it saw him earn Fighter of the Month honors, and it sees him take KO of the Month as well. From the outset he seemed too strong for Gonzalez who looked frustrated early on, and was having a particularly hard time dealing with the aggression and strength of Sor Rungvisai, the end began in Round 4 when Sor Rungvisai dropped Gonzalez with a right hook. Gonzalez was able to get to his feet, but he was unsteady, and Sor Rungvisai was able to take advantage. He pressed in firing away looking for the finish, and when a sweeping left landed on Gonzalez's chin he got it! Gonzalez dropped to the canvas hard, and the fight was over. A dominant win for Sor Rungvisai, and TTR's Knockout of the Month!
