Roman Gonzalez Granted Chance to Reclaim Super-Flyweight Crown
The now 29-year- old has recently been granted an opportunity to reclaim his super-flyweight strap on September 9th, though, with the pair's rematch confirmed to take place at The Forum in California. Gonzalez will take to the ring knowing a win in this second scuffle with Rungvisai will set up even further high-profile bouts, especially with the winner expected to face the victor of former foes Carlos Cuadras and Juan Francisco Estrada.

Chocolatito is also tipped to collide with rising Japanese star Naoya Inoue in the near future, in a potential super-fight. First up, though, is a repeat of the front-runner for Fight of the Year against solid opponent and current WBC title holder Rungvisai. The duo shared 12 bloody rounds back in March, with a series of head clashes inflicting Gonzalez with two sickening cuts above his right eye.

After their thrilling match-up, the Madison Square Garden canvas was covered in the four-weight world champion's blood, signalling the brutality and punishment withstood throughout the scrap. Rungvisai was perhaps lucky to have gained the judges' nod during that incredible first fight, but Gonzalez will be out to gain revenge and put things right on September 9th.

Gonzalez's previous position at the summit of the pound-for-pound rankings was also stolen in defeat earlier this year, with that mantle having switched to Andre Ward. The latter conquered Sergey Kovalev in a light heavyweight unification battle, but Chocolatito can earn back the right to be called the world's best with a rematch victory later in 2017.

Ward will soon take on Kovalev again in an awaited rematch, which he is odds-on 8/11 favourite with the bookmakers to win. The £30 free bet available through Oddschecker is therefore worth snapping up for such a price. The offer applies to anybody who makes a £10 wager with Betfair.

Despite being toppled in the first round in their initial meeting, Gonzalez never folded and was able to withstand an early onslaught to finish the stronger looking fighter. That wasn't enough in eyes of the judges that night, though, and he will now be seeking to avenge such a result back on American soil in the coming months.

A second defeat to Rungvisai won't be a disaster for the Nicaraguan, but it would halt any immediate plans for bouts against the likes of Cuadras, Estrada or Inoue. All of those possible outings would hand Gonzalez huge paydays, but the four-division titlist will have only Rungvisai in his sights for now.
