During the two-day period of Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, six boxers ranked by the participating members of TTR as being among the best currently fighting in their respective weight classes were in action, Five, Pungluang Sor Singyu, Zolani Tete, Amnat Ruenroeng, Keith Thurman, and Abner Mares, won while one, Robert Guerrero, lost (to Thurman). During the same period, Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo, Roberto Domingo Sosa, Ik Yang, and Adrien Broner may have fought their way into or back into TTR's rankings.

- This was Thurman's first title defense since the WBA elevated him from interim champion to world champion.
- Although the bout was sanctioned as a WBA title bout, the ring announcer did not announce it as such nor was Thurman, who did not wear his WBA belt into the ring, announced as being the defending WBA champ.
- Thurman floored Guerrero in the 9th round.
- Guerrero showed courage and determination battling back during the bout's final three rounds but it was way too little, way too late.
- The official scores were 120-107, 118-109, and 118-109.
- Scoring the bout for TTR, I had Thurman winning 118-110 ( 9 rounds for Thurman including a 10-8 9th, 2 rounds for Guerrero, and one round even).
